We’re humbled by the incredible people who help us reach more children at home in Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world.
Here are just some of the recent fundraisers that have supported our mahi.
Drama Kids Rotorua
In November 2021, Rotorua’s next generation of stars lit up the stage performing in their annual showcase for friends, family and the community, while also giving to Save the Children NZ.
For the past few years, Drama Kids Rotorua has held an annual charity showcase for students to share their year's work and to raise money for a chosen charity.
The choice to donate to Save the Children NZ this year came after a student was reading the book Refugee, by Alan Gratz, for his Speech New Zealand exam.
He inspired drama teacher Jennifer Wicks to want to listen to the audiobook, and at the end the author says, "If you have been moved by this book please consider donating to those in need".
He named two of his favourite charities as Save the Children and Unicef.
Jennifer was deeply moved by the book and so is thrilled to be able to use this opportunity to raise money for Save the Children.
"The thing is with the arts we don't really do it for ourselves, we do it for others ... and to be able to use their talents for good to help those in need, I think it adds another element of kindness and giving."

Southern Stars Early Learning Centre Art Auction 2021
A generous gift from a five-year-old advocate in the making was behind the Southern Stars Tamariki artwork and silent auction at the Manapouri Art Group Labour Weekend Exhibition at the Manapouri Community Hall.
The initiative came from one of the centre’s tamariki who recently 'graduated' from Stars to attend school. As a leaving gesture, her mum asked what she would like to do and she replied "I would like to Save the Children" after seeing news about the charity on TV.
This gave rise to the idea that Charlotte and her friends could do something to raise money that can be donated to help families a little less fortunate.
The theme started as "My family & I" but quickly diversified into other topic areas as children decided they wanted to follow their other interests including farm and machinery themes.
The silent auction raised around $200 for Save the Children.
We were humbled by the empathy shown by a child so young, and her readiness to try to help others less fortunate. It’s wonderful to see tamariki feeling empowered to take action, an area we’re hoping to help support in Aotearoa through our education hub.
